Microhistories of new media

Given the interesting discussion generated by the LA Weekly article (see the October archives of iDC), and given also the confusing, conflicted, suppressed histories of the LA new media scene that emerged in that discussion, we decided it might be useful and even productive to create a space where the kinds of microhistories that began to emerge in that discussion could be recorded. There is a need for this kind of bootstrapped historical record. We'll try to put up "microhistorical material" and we'll see how it goes. Here, just for the hell of it, is an image of an optophone prototype designed by Alexander Graham Bell in 1880, one in a line of interesting experiments with "audio-visual" mapping.
